Up North: A photographic self-portrait of the founding of Beloit’s African American Community by Lewis Koch, 1976

The Beloit Public Library has publicly displayed this collection over the years in the library, this year it’s available to view it online. It is an amazing collection to see. Here are a few pictures that I wanted to feature. I’ll be sharing more over the next few days. If you have any additional information about the people in these pictures, please feel free to comment.

“A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words”

We don’t know their life’s story, but history tells us that most African Americans have endured unfathomable hardships and unspeakable pain through loss. But, when one looks at these beautiful pictures you see people with class, dignity, confidence, style, strength and honor. It reinforces that we are strong and resilient!
